EARTH DAY 2009: THE GREEN GENERATION

APRIL 22, 2009

Thank you to all of our friends who participated in this year's EarthDay. This year, we celebrated the "Green Generation" with the following core tenants:

  • A carbon-free future based on renewable energy that will end our common dependency on fossil fuels, including coal.
  • An individual’s commitment to responsible, sustainable consumption.
  • Creation of a new green economy that lifts people out of poverty by creating millions of quality green jobs and transforms the global education system into a green one.

As we move forward in 2009, there are many challenging problems that desperately need our collective attention and action. Right now, ChallengerDeep is involved in the fight to stop the Japanese Whaling fleet's continued assault on our Ocean citizens in the Southern Ocean, the slaughter of whales in the Faroe Islands, the killing of Seals in Canada and the decimation of Shark populations worldwide.

In this time of challenge and controversy, we must remain focused and united in our campaign to make this World a true home for all beings.

ChallengerDeep is also involved with ongoing research in the Adriatic Sea, as the Elasmobranchii survey and catalogue nears completion, we will post updates and excerpts. Our partnership with Sea Explorers, Shark Lab and the Shark Trust will give us the opportunity to identify critical area and shape shark conservation efforts.

Skates and Rays of the Adriatic will be published online within the next few weeks and we look forward to more submissions!
